Travel Nightmare

For the first time this season, the young Terps took their show on the road and the experience can be characterized in a few words: a Mississippi State rout.

In losing to the #25-ranked Bulldogs, the Terps managed to score only 55 points. So it appears that Maryland's offense wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders.

Meanwhile, the Terps gave up 84 points . . . including 43 points (a career high) to MSU Senior Guard Alexis Rack. (Now that's what we call racking up points!) So it would seem that Maryland's defense needs a little work.

Not a single Terps player scored in double figures, which means that the position of Maryland go-to player is still open and applications are still being accepted.

Perhaps it was a good thing that the promised audio broadcast from Starkville did not materialize. When your favorite team ends up losing 84-55, it's painful enough just following periodic score updates on line. Listening to the play-by-play of such carnage might have been more than we could bear.

But in other news, the BasketCases' oldest nephew got married yesterday up in Yonkers, New York. So we had fun traveling this weekend even if the Terps did not.

I can confirm that it was truly ugly. I think the youngsters may have a better idea now of what is required to succeed at this level. If you check your cell phone, I sent you some pictures. It was also amazing to see the attendance at the game. Not sure if this is standard for the Lady Bulldogs or if it was Maryland that was the big draw. At any rate, there was quite a crowd. Perhaps it's due to the fact that MSU is in the middle of BF nowhere and there's nothing else to do. Made me really appreciate College Park. I have to say, though, that everyone was extremely nice. Got to meet Coach Langley's family as well - seriously nice folks - and funny. We get to see them in CP next week. See you Tuesday!! Gerri

I just checked the box scores for MSU so far this year and apparently MD was the draw. Attendance was around 3000. Previous games, other than the Ark-Pine Bluff game at 2000, drew only 500 or so. Interesting.....

No Marah (still don't understand why she left--could have been "her team" this year) and Dee really hurts MD. They are just so young. I think there will be a could of games (I hope not too many) like this but as long as they compete with heart, I will be happy. Kizer is a beast and will be a great player and i think Taylor will be real good too...she just needs experience.
