Wish List . . .

There were only two things the BasketCases wanted to see today, and the second -- Maryland's game at American University -- unfortunately was totally dependent upon the first -- a snow plow on our street.

Alas, even as we write this, well after 4PM on Sunday afternoon, our street (on top of a very steep hill) remains unplowed. The two feet of snow that fell on Friday and Saturday remain undisturbed. Which means, sadly, that we did not make it to Bender Arena today. And neither did the broadcasters from WMUC sports, whose web site explained that "the broadcast of Sunday's women's basketball game against American has been CANCELLED due to inclement weather." So no audio either.

But there is good news. According to ESPN, the Terps defeated the Eagles, 75-64, earning their first win on the road (albeit a short but snowy road). So, congratulations, Terps!

We hope perhaps some readers who live in better-served areas (or at least not on top of steep hills) who were able to get to Bender today might share some observations about the game. We also hope we can get down off our street tomorrow!

Safe driving, everyone!

Paid my 5.95, watched it online. According to AU announcers both Kizer and Hawkins had double doubles and Dara had 11 assists at the time. There were many moments when it looked like we'd pull away, and AU got right back in it. Also announced we shot 52% from the floor, a sad 27% from 3 pt range, and 68% free throws. All in all, a LOT better than watching the Towson game last week. And it looked like maybe 50 people in attendance?

Good luck getting out of your neighborhood.

I was there. The terps looked great on defense in spurts and just awful most of the time. Lynetta kizer showed really good energy and ended up with 19?. Tianna Hawkins played really well and ended up with 20 points. She played with a lot of hustle and made everything she needed to. Every one else played pretty badly. Dara was a little out of control and passed up open 3 point shots (not something umd has seen since before kt). DIandra, Lori, and Kim were off and didn't do much. Basically a game where if they played as strong defensively as they did for two possesions where American had shot clock violations, yemi and essence would have had the most minutes of anybody. Mostly, you were left shaking your head at the terps inability to defend.

patience...patience...patience is what I will need to practice this year as a lady terp fan. We will see how the ACC goes. Nice to see Lynetta step up with a big game.

Happy for the win, but I'm VERY worried about Petey the Panda who seemed drowning in a drift on Saturday! Please tell us that he was able to shovel his way to safety and warmth!?!

We're happy to report that the BCs were able to rescue Petey from the snow bank. Unfortunately, Petey is still stuck at home on top of the hill . . . no plow, no sand, no salt. Still waiting!
