Breaking News: TEAM ACC adds another!

With the 6th pick in the WNBA draft, the Mystics have chosen 6'5" Post Jacinta Monroe from Florida State University.

More later....

Welcome, Jacinta!!!

* * * * *
With the 14th overall pick, the Mystics have drafted 6'3" Center Jenna Smith from Illinois.

And with the 18th pick, they've selected 6'2" Forward Shanavia Dowdell from Louisiana Tech. (We will have to ask Daron Park for the scoop on her!) Finally, the Mystics have used the 30th overall pick to draft 5'8" Guard Alexis Gray-Lawson of Cal.

Welcome all!

I was hoping for J Appel. We'll wait and see...

A.T. calls Jacinta "a true post... gives us versatility." Time will tell, but at 6'5", she has good size and Angela seems pretty psyched. Welcome to DC, Jacinta! Pretty soon, we'll be the all-ACC team.

But if they had a choice between Monroe and Appel, who do you think they would've gone for? And by the way, with Tina Charles at center, what's Conneticut going to do with Sandrinr Gruda?

Connecticut just traded for Kelsey Griffin, Minnesota's 2010 first-round pick. The Sun are going to be REALLY good this season. Wow! We WILL need size in the post!

Wo did they trade her for? (I'm at work so I can't see it live on TV).

All ACC team versus All UConn team! :) Griffin traded for 2011 draft picks.

No point speculating about Appel... San Antonio took her with the 5th pick, right before D.C. picked.

As for the Sun trade of their 2011 draft picks for Griffin -- guess they are convinced they won't be in the Maya Moore lottery!

We should trade for Sandrine Gruda.
She's young, fast, and has a good jump shot not common among centers. I'm not sold on a rookie at center unless it's Jayne Appel.

I KNOW Appel was picked by the Sun (via WNBA,com). I'm just bemoaning the fact that we didn't trade up to snag her.

Monroe, Smith and now Shanavia Dowdell, 6' 2 forward from Louisiana Tech. Go Mystics!

Thanks for posting draft info. I've been underwhelmed by the war room live blog - I was hoping they'd post each pick as it was announced, not later.

I was hoping for Kelsey, but assume that our FO knows the players far better than I ever will, so trust their picks. Nice to see that our chant of "Center, Center, Center" was heard loud and clear (Yes, I know that the FO was chanting it too)

Just did a phone interview with Taj McWilliams, a free agent, on the WNBA draft show. She wants to play for an East Coast team! Loved her when she was here!

honestly glad that Appel wasn't around for the mystics to pick her
National Championship game, the time when you are supposed to step it up, she went 0-12

Conn and New York are going to be super tough this year.

ummmm... as for Jayne and her 0-for-12 Nat'l Championship... She was planning on one good foot and required a pain-relieving shot to play. She's a warrior. I'd love to have her and her double braids on my team. :)

Not sure if jayne appel is really a game changer though. She is no tina Charles, that's for sure.
