Storm Blows By Mystics. It's hard to beat a team when you give up 36 points in a single quarter, and that's exactly what the Seattle Storm scored in the 4th period last night, as they overcame a deficit of 10 points with a little more than 11 minutes left in the game to beat the Mystics, 82-76. As our readers know, we did not see this late night game. But there's plenty to read in Jayda Evans's story for the Seattle Times, here, and in the AP story, here. For those interested in all the stats, the box score is here.

The Mystics now head south to LA to face the Sparks on Friday night.

Go Mystics . . . Beat L-A!

I applaud their effort, even if I'm not happy about the final score. I'm looking forward to watching the archived game tonight.

Let's hope we can break this slump in L.A.

You cannot allow 36 points in a quarter...especially in the 4th quarter.

Nice to see Monique again with over 20 pts and Marissa with 8 (2-2 from 3). Katie Smith needs to find her shot...and soon. And our two headed post non-monster of Nakia and Chas has got to step it up. Lang is incredibly dependable, but needs more help.

Um.....Smith's shooting percentage is about the same so far as it has been throughout her entire career. Considering how well she's played on the defensive end so far, how many more good scoring chances the likes of Mo and Lindsey are getting because opponents have to worry about her, and the fact that she hadn't played in about 8 or 9 months this was even more than I expected her to bring to the Mystics this soon. If they stay healthy, this team could go a long way. I'm kind of bummed this is probably the only year they'll have shots this evenly distibuted among a group of players and this good of a chance to win the championshp.

I agree that Smith's stats belie the amazing boost she's giving the team. I was a skeptic, but she is truly a team player, as shown by her concentrating much more on helping the team win than on posting her own numbers.

Oops, I was in NO way trying to minimize Katie Smith's contributions to the Styx thus far. Everything she brings to this team is huge. In addition to all her tough defense, having her on the floor, Lindsey hunts her shot more, knowing that Katie's also looking for ways to set up teammates. Having three scorers (Mo, Lindsey and Crystal) well into double figures will win many/most games, as long as most others are scoring 4-9 pts. But, when others aren't getting those pts, we need Katie (or someone) to put up a few more, especially in the 4th quarter.

Yes, good points! And we certainly want to stop those 4th quarter surges by the other team. Youch.
