When It Was Announced pre-game that the Mystics would be playing this afternoon without Crystal Langhorne (bad back), it didn't take a crystal ball to figure out that with no Alana, no Mo and now no Lang, this would be a tough game for the Mystics to win -- even though the Seattle Storm were playing without superstar Lauren Jackson.

The Mystics, who started Victoria Dunlap in Crystal's place, put up a good effort, but nevertheless ended their four-year home win streak over Seattle, losing this afternoon at the Phone Booth, 73-63.

With today's loss, the Mystics have fallen to 2-6. They now head out on a five-game road trip that begins on Tuesday night in Chicago at 8pm, with visits after that to Indy, Seattle, Phoenix and LA before they return home to face Atlanta on July 20 for the kiddie game.

I think I've come to the realization today that Marissa Coleman is not going to be a star in this league. I think she will be a good piece to any team but she doesn't have the consistent scoring skills to be a true star in the league. I think I had such big expectations and i've realized that it's not reality. Again, I think she can be a good piece for the Mystics or any team, but just not that star I expected.

The 2nd quarter lost it for us tonight. Too much one on one and not enough team ball.

Could we start Langhorne and Dunlap together? Unlike Nicki, Dunlap seems like she can actually finish at the basket. Or would we be too short?

Frankly, I hate the Mystics' offense. Too much standing around, not ball movement, and no one making a move to the basket until there's five seconds left on the shot clock. I thought Dunlap did a wonderful job for a rookie today. But, not having Lang hurt us today.

Anyone know how bad Lang's injury is?

Trudy said in her interview that Lang was day to day. That's it, no more info was given. We will see if she plays on Tuesday.

Trudi is ONLY about herself! She not in it for the team!!! She is only in it for the money... very sad because the Mystics had "it going on" and she had a chance to keep it going but she sold it out to get herself ahead! Good luck Mystics!

Money? What money? No one in the wnba makes any money so what are you talking about?

I agree--Trudi is not in it for the money. And it's not like she staged a coupe to get rid of Plank--in fact her life would probably be a lot easier if that hadn't happened.
Alana was (maybe still is?) listed day to day, so that term is pretty meaningless.
Considering our 3 best players were on the bench, I though our defense was generally really good. What happened with the offense? So many of those shots should have been gimmes. Are the players (justifiably) exhausted so they're getting sloppy?
This is the second year we've been saying things would be different if Alana were healthy. Maybe it's time to concede that her feet and ankles just won't hold up any longer.

I can't remember if it was on Mystics Magazine or in the Wash Post, but Crystal commented that she has been playing in pain for awhile. Anonymous 7:25 PM - if Marissa was not playing, we would have fewer rebounds, fewer block shorts, and fewer points. Victoria Dunlap I am impressed. It was scary to look at the bench and only see rookies. But a 10 points loss, it could have been 30 points.

Dunlap was impressive -- the first time I have seen much reason for her first-round status. I agree about the inactive offense. Both Miller and Ajavon seemed very frustrated with the younger players not moving and getting into position.

I was just saying that I don't think Marissa will ever be a real star in the league. I said she is and will be a good piece on any team but just not the star that I had expected. I see her more like a Willingham or a Wright on Seattle. Good pieces that matter to their team, but not stars. That's all I was saying.

I thought it was a pretty good effort considering our personnel and all the injuries-it was fun seeing Katie again. As soon as I noticed Lang wasn't warming up, I felt it was going to be a long night, but Ms. Dunlap really stepped up and the Mystics made it closer than I thoughtit would be!

We are back to having to appreciate effort rather than wins. We long time fans have had a lot of practice at that.

And I'm glad that there is effort being made. There seems to be a more consistent effort by the players on the floor this year. Even if the ball's not dropping, players seem to keep trying. In the last several games, Coleman seems to be stepping it up. AFter her performance on Sunday, I hope that she doesn't get "Currie Disease" when her former college teammate is able to return to play.
