We Interrupt the Big Dance . . .

Much as we hate to break into our continuing coverage of the NCAA Tournament, the BasketCases would be remiss if we did not report that the Mystics announced today that starting point guard Nikki Teasley and the team have "agreed to part ways." According to Mystics GM Linda Hargrove, the move was not related to Nikki's pregnancy.

As our loyal readers know, the Mystics recently signed Lynx reserve PG Amber Jacobs, no doubt knowing that DC would be a little needy at the one spot this season.

The BasketCases will miss Nikki and her 1,000 watt smile, and we wish her all the best.

Yeah. It can't be related to her pregnancy because that would be grounds for a lawsuit.

We will also miss your crossover. But you can put your handle to use on the baby. Congratulations!

I'm really shocked by the news! We gave up so much to get her, now we're losing her without any compensation. I figured the Jacobs signing was just a stop-gap until Teasley returned. With all due respect to Jacobs, that's a HUGE loss. She will be missed.

It's a sad ending to what began as a promising chapter. Nikki did have a truly mediocre season last year, though; take away the assists and/or points from two or three decent games and her numbers would have been abysmal.

Here's hoping she gets her career going again, if that's what she wants after the bundle of joy arrives.
