The Mystics Lost to the Chicago Sky last night, on the road, 78-65.

Still missing Lang (as well as Alana and Mo), Washington was unable to contain the Sky's 6'6" Center, Sylvia Fowles. Big Syl put together a season-best 34-point, 16-rebound night against the Mystics' undersized and inexperienced frontcourt.

Marissa led the Mystics with 14 points, while Matee and Jasmine (off the bench) chipped in 11 points each. But it wasn't enough.

The Mystics have now fallen to 2-7 on the season. They next face the conference-leading Fever in Indianapolis on Saturday at 7 PM.

Ok, it was another loss, but the team has heart. At least they were still fighting all the way through. I know this shouldn't be a rebuilding year, but the rookies are getting so much good experience that if we can avoid another personnel upheaval (a big if, with this franchise) then we could have a really solid team next year. I also appreciate that Trudi is letting players like Marissa keep trying their 3s without pulling them.
All of this means they're still a compelling team to watch, even with the losses.
Does anyone really believe Alana will return this season?

Anonymous 9:18 I agree with you 100%. I would have loved to see a continuation from last year, but as you say, if we can keep this together, look out next year, and the next, and the next. I am getting excited about the future watching Dunlap, Thomas, and Phillips evolved. It will be interesting in many respects should Alana return this year, but I don't know.

BRING BACK PLANK !!!!!!!!!! There will be no next year improvements with the current coaches in place. The last two years were not a fluke. We didn't have great players and the coaches calls made all the difference. I bet these girls are having some fun now????????

This team does have heart. They are just outmanned with 3 all stars on the bench. I do think we are missing maybe another really good player though even if Mo and Lang come back next year. I'm not sure about Alana--her playing days might be numbered.

Can you also bring back the days of no taxes? What About 15 cent a gallon gas? What about the days you could go grocery shopping for and not spend half your paycheck? Besides, if you were Julie, would you want to come back here? The past is the past and unfortunately you cannot change it, so why dwell on it!

Good luck to the mystics, they need it. But the bright spot, Sylvia Fowles, was a joy to watch.

Those 4 rookies are going to anchor your Eastern Conference Champions team in a couple of years.

Just heard that the Mystics re-signed Kerri Gardin and waived Joy Cheek.

That's good I think. Although what we really need is more players that can consistently put the ball in the basket like Lang.

Its great to read so many positive comments. Those rookies are scoring more each time out and Marrissa is coming vack. The youngest team this year will be a force to deal with in the future.

I hope the rookies don't get discouraged on this road trip coming up. The easy part of the schedule is over.

I too am really enjoying the development of the young players. Trudi and Marianne are doing a good job - don't see what Julie could do to get a better outcome.

Dear Section 100:

Regarding Julie Plank:

Nothing against Trudi or the young rookies, but some may be forgetting that Julie wasn't the only person pushed out the door by the Mystics, so was Angela.

And we think that if Angela were still the GM, she would not have assembled a team so reliant on rookies, particularly knowing that Mo would be out all season and that Alana hadn't been able to play a competitive game of bball in more than a year.

And, if Julie were still here, Lindsey would stil be here too. It would be a very different team.

With all the rookies now, Lang had to start the season playing far too many minutes, being double and triple teamed and banged up under the basket.

Not saying that any coach can do a lot when their All-Stars are injured, but if Angela and Julie were still here, we think Julie would have been coaching a very different team.

Keep enjoying that development of young players, because that's about all the franchise is going to be able to do. Veteran players won't be signing, and as soon as their contracts are up (or before) the good young players will be out of town.

BC's,

Why do you say Harding would be here if Julie where here? Do we know this for a fact?

I agree with you--with Angela, the team would be different.

Why do people even leave comments on this trash blog?????? All they do is try and trash the Org. DO US DIE HEART FANS A FAVOR AND CHEER FOR ANOTHER TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!! GET THE FUCK OVER IT ALREADY!

Um, because the Basketcases are thoughtful, articulate, interesting, and well informed?

The foul language is totally unnecesssary here. If you don't like the blog, go someplace else. I'm a die-hard fan, too, and like the BasketCases, am frustrated with the way the off-season and the start of the summer has gone for the Mystics. The BCs pull no punches and speak the truth. If you can't handle the truth and just want to leave the rose-colored glasses on, go someplace else. The hostility and personal attacks are totally intolerable.

I thought this week would be different. It started out so positive for the young players. But all that changed suddenly and this week became like every other week. I have always enjoyed this blog, but now I think I will only follow it during Maryland BB because at least that is positive and we don't end up with the Julie is better than Trudi. Lindsey would still be here. I'm not bashing the BCs, just the negative attitude about something we have no control over.

Die hard fans are the ones that are commenting on this blog. Some are even cheering for another team, which is unfortunate. Not sure why anyone would read this blog if they feel it is trashing the organization. The Mystics left themselves open for commenting when they let two of the greatest things that ever happened to this team go. Sheila knows it-sure that is why she is keeping a low profile when it comes to those attending the games. Gone are the seasons where anything those running the Mystics do to this team will be accepted by all. Sorry to see such bad language used here for people to express themselves. Some of us will never be over it! By that we mean Angela and Julie!

Die hard fans IMO understand that this is a business like any other. If I am that upset on the desicions I will take my behind someplace else and spend my money. I can't understad for the life of me why would someone that appears to be intelligent continue to waste time beating a dead horse??? "two of the greatest things that ever happened to this team" I beg to differ. Julie took the team NOWHERE in the post season. Angela I agree she was the best GM we've had. The team on the floor is what we have and I will support them 10 times over. I agree with the comment not the strong language but, it's time to move on. #4real.

I think it's our duty as fans to call out the organization when it's warranted and I think Stewart said it best. However, that doesn't mean that we have to turn against each other just because some of us still have hard feelings from last fall or if we support the decision as one in the best interest of the team or both. I know we have to live in the now and support the guys on the court right now, but I also believe that the fans were slapped with the moves last season.

Can't we all just get along please?

I've been holding this in for a long time, but there is something that needs to be said. Harding and Smith did not leave because of Plank and Taylor. Plank nor Taylor would have been able to prevent it if they were still here. Let's move on past that too and give the players as much support as we can.

peace

I as a fan was slapped in the face by the organzation from the lack of communication when the fans was writing and asking for an explaination. Now as far as Harding and Smith leaving because of the departure of Julie and Angela? I don't know what happend there, until I see it in b/w or hear it from their mouths, I will not believe any rumors.

This is a blog about the Mystics. not all talk will be positive or negative, it will be both depending on how the team is doing. The Mystics had a terrible off season. That's fact and everyone in the league knows it. Then it was compounded by the injury to Currie and Beard not able to play. Now Lang. We have won 2 games. We are a bad team. Our record clearly indicates that fact. Last year was fun--I like to win. so yes, I still am very sad our winning GM is gone. Sorry, I am not over it yet because again, I like to win--it's more fun.

If somebody really does know that Lindsey would have stayed if Julie was still here, they probably are not going to say how they know that for sure. Anything anyone personally knows from talking to either one of them after the events of Oct&Nov 2010 will be kept in confidence I am sure. It has been stated here that she did leave because of Julie and also that she didn't. Only a choice few may ever really know.

The organization brought all of this on themselves. It's unfortunate that some players still with the organization, and some people no longer with it suffered in the process. I'm honestly tired of people who are no longer with the organization getting unfairly trashed, but I suppose it's the reality they face if they want to continue to be a part of the league.

That being said, I will continue to publicly defend those people, who I know to be good and decent human beings.
