A Few Friday Notes . .

The Mystics play the Chicago Sky in Milwaukee tonight for the first of their three preseason games. Several of the Mystics' starters are either still engaged in international play or nursing injuries, so this game will likely be more about rookies and free agents showcasing their talents in hopes of earning a roster spot than an indication of what the Mystics will look like when the real season tips off on May 19th. The BasketCases are hoping that 2nd round draftee, Megan Vogel, makes the cut . . . her blogs have been so much fun to read!

Welcome, New Additions to Coach Frese's staff! The Terps announced this week that an assistant coach from the University of Utah, Daron Park, will be moving to College Park (double Park?) to be a new assistant to Coach B, and Diane Richardson, an assistant coach at American University will also be moving to College Park (in her case, she might consider taking the Metro) to fill the position of Director of Basketball Operations, following Mark Pearson's departure.

More Shay . . . she sure is getting a lot of buzz! NBA-TV has a video feature on Shay -- you can find the link to it from WNBA.com's homepage. You will need to register -- but registration is free! Also on WNBA.com, the Liberty's website has a Q&A with Shay . . . definitely worth reading! Heres' a sneak preview:

Q. What will you take from your experience at Maryland that will help you with the Liberty?

Doron: I’ll take a lot. The game experience; playing in the ACC; playing in humongous games on the biggest stages there are in women’s basketball. Just that feeling; knowing that I’ve been there and knowing that I’ve done that and not putting any excess pressure on myself. I think all of that will help me with being poised playing here and getting through the ups and downs of the rookie year. All of these things Maryland has prepared me for because it’s a long college season and you go through a lot. And I’ve learned a lot in my four years at Maryland and I’m going to use all of that on the court, off the court and use it to my advantage.

Don't Forget . . . a week from Sunday, May 13th, the Mystics will be hosting a professional team from Israel, Anda Ramat Hasharon, in a preseason game at 3 PM at the Verizon Center. This is the first time any WNBA team has faced off against a professional team from another country. Tickets for the game are only $10 (only about 40 Shekels)! Cheap . . . and fun!

I sent an e-mail to the Mystics' web master about the coverage (or lack of)after the pre-season game with Chicago. It's a darn shame our own site can't write more then one sentence about the game. The training camp updates and Megan's blog have been great, now they need to at least print an AP story or something. The Sky's site had a story and there were 2 papers from their back yard that had a write up about the game. So disappointing.
