The Things That Matter.

As most Maryland fans already know, the Terps drew the second game of Round Two tonight, which means that they won't be tipping off against the Cornhuskers until about 9:30 PM.

That's pretty darn late, and in fact Maryland was hoping for the 7 PM game. But ESPN had other ideas. Seems the network wants all those folks on Tobacco Road to be able to see both the Duke game (v. Arizona State) and the Carolina game (v. Georgia) on TV tonight. So those teams have to play at different times, and since Carolina will be playing at 9 PM (in Norfolk) and Duke will be playing here at Comcast, the Terps will play after Duke.

Of course, this doesn't explain why Carolina and Maryland couldn't both play the early game at their respective venues. But we've given up trying to understand the powers that be in TV land. Putting all that aside, the only things that really matter are that the Terps will be playing in the second round of the NCAA Tourney tonight, at home in Comcast, and their fans will have the opportunity to be there.

While we're excited about tonight's game, we have to admit we're also a little sad to think that no matter what the outcome, this is the very last college game at Comcast for Maryland seniors Crystal, Laura, Jade and Ashleigh, and the very last chance for all of us to see those remarkable young women play at home in Comcast on Maryland's floor.

Guess Maryland still needs to earn the respect of the networks. That stinks because I'm usually in bed at 9, since I have to be up at 5. Fear the Turtle and boooo on ESPN!

Perhaps we Maryland fans need to meet those blue devils with cold, silent indifference! No boos, no cheers, just nap until 9:30pm when the real game starts.

Watching some of the antics of the cameron crazies - what's their IQ?

I actually don't hate the Duke teams, seriously now. I want them to lose. Badly. Every day. But they're young women and, yes, young men who play hard, are well coached, and are typically good kids with the notable exception of Christian Laettner.

Now, if 48 hour incontinence suddenly struck all the residents of Krzyzewskiville, well, now that would just be a damn shame. Maybe somebody needs to think about hygiene and up their dietary fiber. Asshats.

Maybe we could sing that little song from Bye Bye Birdie in a very loving, sarcastic way:

We love you Dookies, Oh yes we do.
We wear the red and black, you are the blue
When you are on the court we boo
Oh Dookies, we love you.

Love? I don't think so! LOL

I have FAR too much regard for you, Cases, to EVER suggest that you yourselves deserve a Golden Twinke. And I do root for the Terps! However. How ‘bout some love, or a mere mention, of the GW Colonials’ victory over Cal last night, and the heroics of Sarah Jo Lawrence that secured said win?

IMHO Sarah Jo, Whitney Allen, Kimberly Beck and the morale-boosting reserve Lora Mitchell are every bit as remarkable as Maryland’s wonderful group of seniors. Following them through their years at G-Dub has been as an enjoyable a college b-ball experience as any I’ve had.

As I’ve stated, though, I like the Terps too, and I’ll be at Comcast Center tonight for the doubleheader. Lucky for me I work for the schools and it’s spring break, so I’ve rested up. Back in ’05 I got so drained rooting (in vain) for DePaul to knock out Team Falwell that I couldn’t last all of the Terps-Ohio State game.

Dear C&O,

The Golden Twinkie Award is given for "Journalistic Inaccuracy." Since we haven't written a single thing this season about the Colonials, we're confident that everything we've said about them has been accurate!

Also, check out our masthead; this is a Terps blog! Feel free to start your own GW blog! (But know that it's a lot of work!)

LOL!

Cases, your masthead claims the blog adresses "Washington Mystics, the Maryland Terrapins or any other team, player or character associated with the world of women's hoops."

LO -- nah.

C&O - congrats to the GW Colonial women. Easily my 2nd or 3rd favorite women's basketball team in the area. :-)

Actually, since I don't have three favorite men's teams, this is actually high praise.

I thought Sarah-Jo was outstanding, but I also felt that Cal went into utter brainlock with about five minutes left. On the travel call, yeah, she absolutely traveled, and why break the press and then run into the trap?

Plus the officials completely blew and over-and-back call on Cal. So Boyle can blame the travel call as much as she wants; her team did it to themselves.

Only Stanford left from the mighty Pac 10. Them all can now officially stop discussing the strength of their league.

It's all good -- I just wanted to call attention to the GW Womens' victory, and I think I accomplished that.

Spring is in the air, greenery appears on the shores of Rock Creek and along the C&O towpath, the Terps and Colonials are in the Sweet 16. Life is good.
