Ooops!

The Mystics' win streak came to a slightly embarrassing end tonight as they fell to the Sky in Chicago, 79-72.

We missed seeing the good part of the game (the part where the Mystics built a 13-point lead) as "Live" Access was decidedly dead for most of the first half. Just our luck that almost exactly when the video arrived, the Mystics' lead began slipping away.

Here's the executive summary of why the Mystics lost: 1) they turned the ball over 18 times, resulting in 21 Sky points off TOs; 2) they shot an abysmal 4-21 from behind the arc; and 3) they committed 22 fouls, leading to 22 Sky points from the line. Ooops.

Crystal Langhorne had another nearly-career night in a losing effort -- she led all scorers with 25 points and she led all rebounders with 13. Lindsey Harding (13) and Mo Currie (12) also finished in double figures for Washington. But it wasn't enough to offset all the mistakes, and so the win-streak ends at 4 and the Mystics lose a little ground to some other Eastern Conference teams who won their games tonight.

Not much more to say about this one . . . except that we hope the Mystics will be more successful in limiting their mistakes when they face the high-scoring, defending WNBA champions, the Phoenix Mercury, on Sunday at 4 PM at the Phone Booth. See you there.

Go Mystics! . . . Beat the Mercury!

Too bad Lang is the only one who came to play.

Yeah, the others just came to collect those huge paychecks and get a free shoulder massage from Big Syl.

"Too bad Lang is the only one to came to play." What do you expect a win every time? We had beaten Chicago twice, the last time was hard fault. We played the great game Thursday night then flew to Chicago. My opinion, chalk this loss up to the Back to back game where the visiting team is the one traveling.

My big concern in the next couple games is that we are going to be exhausted due to lack of players.

uh, yeah -- Julie use your damn bench a little more will ya!!!! Come crunch time we will need E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E! Not just the starting 5!!! We might not win every game, but when your team is playing as many minutes as some of our starters...

Lang is the only one who came to play. Check the stats. She was on the same flight right. Played the night before like the rest. Maybe marissa should have got more minutes and less for Katie smith.

There's an article in the Post about Marissa today -

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/26/AR2010062603465.html

and some interesting comments on RebKell about it - http://boards.rebkell.net/viewtopic.php?t=58545

Hopefully the Mystics can play a lot better than the last 2 games and beat the Mercury today!

Go Mystics!

Thanks for the links to the article and the comments. I do see marissa camp out a lot on that 3 line. Against chi in the first half at home, she was aggressive. Especially that one play where she drove in and got fouled. That's the marissa I remember. Aggressive. Plays aren't called for her but it doesn't mean she can't be aggressive. I am really pulling for her. I know she has the skills and the work ethic. I miss her enthusiasm that she showed at MD. She always got the crowd fired up. And when the lost in the elite 8, broke my heart to see her crying like that. She really cared and put it all out there. Let's go Marissa and the Mystics today!
