For A Short While Tonight it looked like the Mystics might actually put together their first genuine win streak of the season, albeit only two games long.

But it was not to be. Ahead by 5 points with just under 40 seconds left, Washington allowed Atlanta to reel off 7 straight points . . . and the Dream won, 72-70. The Mystics' win "streak" ended at one game, and the players and their fans suffered yet another heartbreaking loss.

How many close ones have the Mystics lost this season? The BCs have lost count . . . but we know it's quite a few. Tonight's loss might well have been the worst. Losing a lead in the last minute, at home, and your opponent hitting the go-ahead bucket with under a second left. That's a stake through the heart. Once more, Washington managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

With the Dream's win tonight and the Sky's loss to the Sun, Atlanta has now leapfrogged over Chicago into fourth place in the East, while the Mystics remain mired in last place in the Conference. The next chance for Mystics to change direction is Friday, when they host the Liberty at the Phone Booth. These two teams haven't played each other since, well, Sunday, when Washington recorded its fourth victory of the season.

OMGosh! This season just needs to end. I can't take it. So frustrating!

Styx missed 12 straight shots. That really lost the game, not the last minute shot.

But the defensive intensity was unreal. I feel like I've been thru a wringer, and I only watched the darned game!

I can't imagine what the players feel like.

And what's with this inability to score after timeouts? It's almost a sure thing that the Styx WON'T score if they take a timeout. Is that coaching or execution?

Yeah, I agree about the timeouts. Although I am know Trudy fan, I think this one is on the players. We missed a ton of easy shots. I sure hope my Terps are good this year.

Coach calling at the end of games is crucial, although players need to execute. I couldn't tell what our coaching calls were in the final minutes. Could you? I didn't like the substitutions either. Did Coach Lacy go into the locker room after the game and state that they really won that game like she did after the Bobbit score with Indiana??? I hope not. Although we played hard, our team looked scattered down the stretch. An experienced player had the ball in the end. I hope we don't hear the excuse "We are young and inexperienced".

Those two turnovers at the end of the game that lead to four Atlanta points were committed by veterans. INEXCUSABLE! And what about all of those missed lay-ups. If I was coaching, I'd make the team do lay-up drills for a solid hour. The Styx literally snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

The coach did make the young and inexperienced - we're growing comment in her post interview. What team hasn't suffered player injuries this year? (Lauren Jackson, Lyndsey Harding, Pierson, Parker, etc.) All teams have young players. Teams keep adjusting and readjusting! What are we doing?

Young and inexperienced?

The BCs find it hard to understand how Trudi can keep saying this, when the rookies played less than 10% of the minutes last night.

She can say whatever she wants. They didn't hire her to be, you know, right....or truthful...or even remotely competent at her job.

So, if the rookies played less than 10% of the minutes does this mean the Mystics are no longer building for the future?

Walker seems like a very nice person, but I don't understand why we cut Christmas to sign her. My only guess was that the Coach/GM thought she needed to win a few more games this season to keep her job. But I think Christmas, not Walker, may have been more able to help the Mystics win now.

The failure to make points in the paint killed us.

We've now lost two games with literally last second baskets (actually, two shots made with less than .5 seconds on the clock).

She did not use that stupid excuse?! Oh, good grief. Give me a break! The team isn't young or inexperienced. Sure it takes time to come together--but that's not what this is. Mattee didn't use that excuse so why is the coach constantly. And yes, there are many teams suffering through injuries, etc. I think Walker has been very solid--but she messed up last night at the end and turned it over. Mattee before her. I will cut Mattee some slack as we wouldn't have been even close if it weren't for her offense and of course the ever steady Lang. We won't win games though with only 2 people scoring. And Nicki with those stupid shots--pass the ball out if you have no shot!! My goodness she takes the most off balance shots of any player I have ever seen. It drives me nuts!!

To be honest, most coaches would have called a timeout. The problem here is that our team never executes after those timeouts. Trudi should realize that by now and just let them play. Walker should have never had the opportunity to have the ball in her hands. The ball was in the hands of a playmaker. Trudi should have gone with that - sink or swim. This team is just snake bit.

I wonder what the play was? What the last 2 plays were?
