Hoping It's A Lucky Number

To no one’s great surprise, the Washington Mystics announced today that they will not be renewing the contract of General Manager/Head Coach Trudi Lacey, who in two seasons at the helm of the team compiled a franchise worst record of 11-57.

Today’s move means that the Mystics will start their 16th season with their 13th Head Coach. The BCs think most fans would agree that it takes far greater stability in the coaching ranks than that in order for a franchise to become a consistent winner, a championship caliber team. Let’s hope that, for sake of the players and fans, Number 13 turns out to be a very lucky number.

HURRAY! Don't know why it took so long but I'm so happy this day has come.

Yeah, I"m glad the coach is gone. she never got a single rebound the whole two years here, and she had a terrible three pointer.

Oh wait...it's the players that couldn't win...

Marcie, she brought the players in here as GM. This is an EXCELLENT start, but I'm not renewing until I see whom we hire and what we do in the first round next April. While I don't expect it, I'd love to have Angela and Julie back. If not, Marynell Meadors took an expansion team to two WNBA Finals. She must be doing something right. Let's hope management can do as such -- for once.

For the first time ever I have to disagree with the BCs--I actually was very surprised that they finally plugged the plug. When Trudi was still coaching after the Olympics I thought the front office really were using this as a way to end the team (blaming poor ticket sales).
My only concern with Marynell is her age. It will take some time to rebuild the Mystics and I'd love to see someone who is willing able to commit many years to the team.
I too am waiting to renew based on the Mystics' next moves.

Glad that Trudi Lacey is gone. I'm also waiting for the Mystics next move before I make my decision to renew or not.

I don't think that someone willing to commit many years to the Mystics is an issue. We were told in the past when Taylor and Plank were hired , 'long term commitment' by SJ. We see how that went. I hope someone with expertise on basketball personnel matters, especially regarding coaches will advise the Mystics management...because they certainly can't do it on their own.

Good riddance Trudi Lacey and don't let the door hit you on the way out, so skeedaddle!

As always, the players will be the ones who suffer and have to adjust and re-adjust and get used to another system.

Every time a bad coach has left us, we got our hopes up only to be smashed again the following year. But I'm willing to be optimistic and get my hopes up yet again. I so want womens professional basketball in DC, I have to be optimistic!

I hope Sheila and Ted can hire someone awesome and get the heck out of the way.

The odds of us getting the #1, 2, or 3 pick are 50/50. We either do or we don't. Period.
