Panda-monium. With 9,128 fans and an equal number of stuffed pandas cheering them on, the Mystics beat the Shock tonight, 78-66, setting a new franchise record for most wins in a season (18). The victory also assured the Mystics of a winning record for only the second time in team history. The BasketCases were a bit worried about the outcome during the first quarter, as the Mystics spotted Detroit a 16-point lead. However, the Mystics managed to get most of that back by the half, and the momentum clearly had shifted. D.C. took the lead for good during the third period. None of Bill Laimbeer’s tantrums had any effect --- either on his players or the officials --- as he and his team (clearly watching the scores from around the league) saw Indy beating the Sun, and knew that tonight (thanks to the Mystics) the Shock would not be locking up second place in the Eastern Conference.

The sea of 9,000 pandas being waved in unison was one of the most incredible things we have ever seen in the Phone Booth! The BasketCases think it was great that the Mystics gave them out to everyone . . . not merely the first few thousand to arrive. And those Build-A-Bears aren't cheap, either! They were a bear-y bear-y generous gift! (Good thing Sheila J is a billionaire!)

The win was a tremendous one for the Mystics over one of the best teams in the league, and a great boost as they prepare for the playoffs. The BasketCases have one bit of advice for Mike Thibault and his players: Be afraid, be very afraid.

What a great game! It was the perfect night for to give away some extra tickets..spread the Mystics cheer; got lots of freebies ie. Panda, t-shirt, water bottle; got to make a Muriel Page fan happy by giving her an autographed ball I had extra; Nikki Teasley came and handed my son a small souvenir ball after the game; Mystics WIN; and most of all my little boy was Fan of the Game!
I'm still high!
Wish the season were not over. We won't be here next year, as we are from New Orleans and will have to go back...I will truly miss being at the Mystics games it has been a great source of entertainment for us in our exile.
Can't wait to BEAT Conneticut Friday!

You make us want to cry.

We're happy that you and your family will finally get to go home...but we'll miss you at the Phone Booth! It's great that, like all Mystics fans, you got to experience such a fabulous finale to the regular season! of the game? Great!

Please come back to DC to visit next summer! And when you do, let the BasketCases know, we'd love to say hello.

We're still laughing with delight at the vision of 9,000 pandas held aloft cheering our Mystics last night!

I think we ought to bring our pandas to all the playoff games -- the enemy will quiver at the sight of thousands of "ferocious" pandas! I mean, what's more terrifying, a towel or a panda? Can you imagine all the traveling Mystics fans on the train to CT sporting pandas! I love it!

Definitely one of my all-time favorite games! Let's bring those pandas back Friday!

Anyone know where the Mystics fans will be sitting tomorrow in the Garden? I am going up on my own and don't want to get lost in a see of Liberties... not like it's 1997 anymore. We have our own team now!

Last night was extra special on this end as my Dad got to come. For the first five years we had tickets together in 110, so it's fun to get him back into the action

The "Even Year" charm - or the "Odd Year" jinx - continues. People focus on how bad the Mystics are. But the fact is they've made the plaoffs every even year of their existance except the inaugural year. That gets lost, I think, cause those odd years have been dreadful.

Dee really kicked Swin's tail last night!!

We will be here until May '07 so I have already purchased my Terrapin season tickets! (I'll still be rooting for LSU if they happen to meet though!)
Maybe we will even make a pre-season Mystics game before we leave?
