Chamique Retires

Late today, the BasketCases' favorite WNBA player of all time, former Mystic Chamique Holdsclaw, announced her immediate retirement from basketball. It was an utter joy to watch Mique play, and will we miss her greatly.

Wow! This is a huge loss for the league and, especially, the Sparks! She always was so smooth when she played. Glad I got a chance to see her up close and personal. She'll be missed.

I was a student at UT while Chamique was there and it was a thrill to watch her play. I really hope that whatever she winds up doing, she's happy.

I am heartbroken over the news. "The Claw" was - and will continue to be - one of two players that I'll always admire (the other being Cynthia Cooper). IMO she is one of the most talented women ever to lace up the sneakers. Yet her legacy will always be tarnished due to the personal problems which kept her from reaching the pinnacle. Even at the top of her game, she never got the props she had earned. How do you lead the league in both scoring and rebounding, and not make 1st team All WNBA?
While she seemed to prefer SF, she was an absolute terror at PF - a virtual rebounding machine. No one could work the baseline like she could.

Love ya, girl. You will always be "my Mique." May God bless you and keep you, #23. I pray the she will "...dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

I'm beyond words.

Good luck, Chamique. May you find peace in all you do.

I am proud of Chamique for doing what she wants to do, not just what everyone else wants her to do. Definitely will miss watching her in games, but bet we will see her doing great things elsewhere in the world.
