CONGRATULATIONS TO TEAM USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The American women today won gold in Beijing, trouncing Australia 92-65. Although the Aussies kept it close in the early minutes, Team USA then took control and never looked back, leaving no question as to who's the number one team in the world.

Congratulations to all the players and to all the coaches! And the BasketCases are particularly thrilled for Northern Virginia native Kara Lawson, who we first watched play at nearby West Springfield High School. What a joy to see her win a gold medal AND lead all American scorers in the Gold Medal game!

Way to Go, U-S-A!!!

Congratulations, indeed, to Team USA. Once again, they proved that basketball isn't just a man's sport. I also think that the gold medal game stood as a good feather in the cap of the WNBA. Of course, all of Team USA was spoken for. Besides the popular names of Lauren Jackson, Penny Taylor and Tully Bevilaqua, I recognized a LOT of Aussie players who had played in the WNBA, including Kristi Harrower and Laura Summerton. What a great accomplishment.

Oh, and the Dave & Buster's party was fun.

Last night during the coverage of the closing ceremonies, the camera was on Yao Ming when LJ came over and gave him a congratulatory hug. Of course, the commentators didn't ID her - I almost didn't either - she looked SO short compared to him.

Kara Lawson sure would look good in a Mystics uniform...

Why wasn't Delisha playing?
(Surely she didn't want to be traded to another country)

Congratulations USA!

Wonderful performance by the USA women's team! And they didn't have to be taught how to exhibit good sportspersonship and interest in other athletes and sports besides their own. Class act all around for all the USA women!
