Post-game Bahamas Update! The BasketCases have their very first foreign correspondent sending eyewitness reports from the islands. (It's a dirty job but someone has to do it!) Check out the Comments below from xwomynjoc for the lastest reports . . . including her wrap up of Maryland's 83-41 walkover against Gardner-Webb on Friday night. . . . Thanks x! (The BasketCases confess that with the first half score at 45-10, we could not bear to listen any longer on the radio. Even the announcers sounded as though they wished they could be somewhere else.)

Sunday Morning Update! In the Comments below, xwomynjoc files her final report from the islands. The Terps won the Junkanoo Jam Freeport Division championship game (surprise!) over Ole Miss, 110-79. Although the Terps allowed all those points, xwomynjoc tells us that she sees improvement in their defense. (That's good news; perhaps there is a D in MARYLAN after all!) The Terps' 110 points were a tournament record, and the most the team has scored in a game since November 1988. Every Maryland starter scored in double figures, and Shay Doron (who had 23 points last night) was named the tourney MVP. Congratulations!!

The BasketCases thank xwomynjoc for her eyewitness accounts, and wish everyone a safe trip home.

Sadly, it's not too much warmer, here in the Bahamas, then it is in Maryland. Hopefully the weather will get warmer as the weekend goes on. I'm not crying about it, just a little disappointed. Happy Thanksgiving to all back home.

Just a little update from the Bahamas. Today, Thanksgiving day, the weather was a little nicer here with tempatures in the high 60s -low 70s so the Ladies were able to go out on the water for some fun. They water skied and road jet skies. Then the
Terps were off to practice at a local high school gym before returning to the hotel for a big Thanksgiving feast on the lawn. All the particapating teams, coaching staffs, family members, and fans were treated to a great meal and followed with a real Junkanoo parade. It was a bit chilly but, we've all had a wonderfull time. I'll post again tomorrow, if not a live update, then after the games. UVA plays at 1 PM. MD plays the last game of the day at 8:30 PM. I think I'm grateful for the weather here more then back home. Hope everyone had a good day!

Hello from the island of Grand Bahama. There we 4 games Friday, so it was a long day. Starting off with UVA vs S. Dakota St. close game all the way until Va just faded in the end and SDS pulled an upset; score 62-55, SDS seemed very determined to play hard and their fans were quite loud. Baylor handled Cen. Fla. easily 78-48. Northwestern gave Ole Miss a scare in the 2nd half by almost coming back from 23 down going on a 40-18 run, but came up short to lose 61-58. Now on to our beloved Terps. The 1st half was ALL MD with the score at half 45-10. This was done by mostly starters and a couple subs. Pretty much what we've been seeing so far this year. 2nd half the bench played most of the time w/ a starter or two thrown in the mix. It became a little sloppy and Gardner-Webb scored 31 pts to our 38 pts, so we a least outscored them in the 2nd half. G-W was really no match for the Terps but they battled hard. Marrisa and Lang were pretty much having their way. KT, Shay and Harp all played well. The weather is now getting to what people think of for the Bahamas w/ lots of Sun and beatiful torquois water. I'll try to give an update on tonights game against Ole Miss. Later from the Islands.

This is the last update from the now sunny and warm Bahamas. The Terps easily handled Ole Miss. The final score was 110-79. Once again, the score isn't isn't indicitive of the game, although Miss. is very fast and fiesty. Shay was named MVP w/ Crystal and Laura making the all-tourny team. It's been a good trip and a great time was had by all the family members and supporters who made the trip. The Team still has lots of work to do but I see steady improvement on defense. I'll see you all at the next home game. Take care.

South Dakota State beating Virginia really wasn't that much of an upset. The Jackrabbits are unbeaten, including a home win over Southern Cal and an 11-point win at Middle Tennessee only three days after the Blue Raiders gave the Terrapins all they could handle. As for UVa, it lost two juniors earlier this month -- Takisha Granberry and Denesha Kenion -- when they withdrew from school. Since they left, the Cavaliers have lost at home to Liberty (still a pretty good program, but one the Cavs should usually beat) before the SDSU game. Looks as if this will, at most, be a transition year for UVa, which probably won't have enough personnel to stay in the middle tier of the ACC with Boston College, Florida State and N.C. State.

As for the Terps, they just keep rolling along...

Just a slight correction, the Terps scored 118 against Appalachian State last year. The 110 may have been a road or neutral court kind of thing.

Thanks Joey. FYI, the Terps' web site says this re the win over Ole Miss: "The 110 points are the most scored by a Terrapin squad since defeating Arkansas, 110-84, on Nov. 26, 1988." But it also says, as you point out, that the Terps scored 118 last year against Appalachian State. Which only proves something that the BasketCases have long lamented: fact checking by reporters and wire services has gone out the window!! Thanks again for the info.
